As the format and objectives of tablesandchairs slowly evolves seeking to encourage a higher level of public discourse and expand the marketplace of ideas, we would like to introduce the first in hopefully a long series of “Guest Soap Box” posts in which the readers (all three of you) are invited to share in this platform. Subject and presentation are unrestricted, dialogue and respectful exchange are essential. This is from my parents….
We are mad… at the slimy, greasy and distasteful campaign run by McCain and Palin!!
We are mad… at the anger and hatred evident among supporters listening to Palin’s rantings about Barack Obama – ‘TERRORIST!’, ‘KILL HIM!’ – what is wrong with these people!
We are mad…. and afraid. In a video, a reporter interviewed members of the crowd at a Palin rally – ‘He’s a terrorist’, ‘He’s a Muslim’, ‘He’s a foreigner’ – some words we have heard before, but the sheer hatred on their faces shocked the heck out of us. We old-timers have seen that kind of anger before in the past.
We are mad… People living in glass houses should never throw stones. McCain and Palin both have some pretty hot skeletons livng in their own closets.
We are mad. We have this brilliant, caring, calm and well qualified candidate in Barack Obama who is for many, hope in these terribly scary times for a decent future, and his name is is being ruthlessly and unjustifiably soiled for the sake of political gain.
Look at his campaign – brilliantly managed. Look at voter registration – through the roof. Look at his choice of Vice President – compare it to McCain’s. Check out the excitement among young folks – amazing!
America, wake up before its too late! We need change. We need to regain our respect in the world and we won’t get it by voting in more of the same! We have a chance to turn this country around and we can’t blow it.
We seniors will do our part, we will whole heartedly support Barack Obama to become the next president of the United States, and we are so proud to do it!”
