Sarah, I realize that this is a generic spam comment responding to all blogs announcing Powell's endorsement (I've seen this on at least seven different blogs so far), nonetheless I'll bite. But first I want to make the point that if you think of your dissent as legitimate and substantial than engage the conversation directly and actually respond to what is being said. If you had done so you would note that my post does not seek to lionize Powell at all nor does it even offer an opinion on the man.

Secondly, if you have a point to make and wish it to be respected as legitimate and substantial than omit insubstantial provocations like "Anyone with intelligence knows that Powell is endorsing based on race." This kind of claim is about as justified as saying Henry Kissinger has endorsed John McCain because he's an old white man and immediately shuts down an intelligent exchange (alas, I'll persist). If this is your explanation for why a conservative Republican would break party lines and endorse Barack Obama than I implore you to shed some light on Christopher Buckley, Ken Adelman, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, etc.

Now as far as employing fabricated polling results as verification of your generalized remark about African Americans voting for Obama solely because he is African American, I would prod you to seek council in some more polling numbers. In the 2004 Presidential Election John Kerry enjoyed the support of 88% of the African American vote, and Al Gore, 90% in 2000. It's not a very shocking revelation that African Americans generally vote Democratic in national elections.

I would also remind you that during the early stages of the Democratic primaries African Americans favored Hillary Clinton overwhelmingly 53% to Obama's 36% and in fact many prominent African American figures like Rev. Jesse Jackson, Cornell West and Tavis Smiley have been consistently critical of Obama. Though it is true that, like his Democratic forerunners, Obama has significant support from the black community (its actually 91%) he also sustains comparable levels with Latinos (70%) and Asians. Even your assertions about white people being split evenly is faulty when you consider generation and gender. So as you ponder your one-sided talking points and hope that others "get educated before they vote" I would ask you to do the same and leave your bigoted presumptions behind you.

Suddenly because Powell is endorsing obama he is not as evil as he used to be? Yet, Powell was the one encouraging the Iraq war claiming they had WMD. Anyone with intelligence knows that Powell is endorsing based on race.

98% of black people are voting for obama just because he is black. White people are split between obama, nadar, and McCain. Think about it.

The truth is this is a race campaign. The Democrats control the senate and congress and have the lowest approval rating in US history. The Democrats couldn't even beat Bush in the elections thus why they are going after the black vote in the US, about 45 million blacks. Thus, why obama voted present over 130 times, avoided the tough issues, and never challenged his party leaders on senate to preserve his political career. Only 143 days on state senate when he decided to run for office.

The Democrats lost because the US is not a socialist/communist system. Americans fought against Nazi Germany, their socialist party, and communist USSR for decades, just to name a few.

Again, Clinton supported deregulation and introduced FTAs like NAFTA. That is why the US economy was strong during his administration. McCain also supports deregulation and fights for FTAs like NAFTA. These initiatives will help our economy. Our economy is very important, McCain is better for our economy. I hope people get educated before they vote.

US businesses create US jobs. obama wants to limit the growth of US businesses, which is limiting the growth of US jobs. If you increase tax on US businesses they will either just relocate to a lower tax country taking American jobs with them, pass the added tax cost to consumers or go bankrupt. GM and Ford can barely compete globally and obama wants to tax them more. The smaller businesses that are reliant on GM and Ford will also be greatly affected, destroying more US jobs.

The US is the land of opportunity not the land of equal outcome. Why should government take your money and give it to people who are already on welfare to spread the wealth?
